Zhytomir, a centre of the Zhytomir region, is located on the banks of the Teteriv river and its tributary - the Kamyanka river. It was founded in 884. The main places of interest are the Horodysche - an archaelogical monument of the second half of the 1st century, the Preobrazhensky Cathedral (1864), the Church of Holy Mother of God, the St.Michael`s Cathedral, the St.Sophia`s Cathedral (1737-1751), the Arts Museum, the Musical Drama Theatre, the Puppet Theatre, the Philharmonic Hall.
